Fenerbahce vs Spartak Trnava Predictions
Will Fenerbahce get their season back on track with a win in the Europa League on Thursday night? The Turkish side are looking wobbly so far, and they will be desperate for success in their meeting with Spartak Trnava this week. The hosts kicked off this group with a defeat, while they’ve been far from solid in the Super Lig so far. They’re hoping to turn things around when they meet Spartak in Istanbul this week, but the visitors will be trying to boost their place in the group.
Fenerbahce were beaten 3-0 by Rizespor on Sunday, and that loss has left them in a tough position going in to this week’s Europa League clash. The hosts are still reeling from their opening match in this group, which was much more than just a defeat. The Turkish side were hammered 4-1 by Dinamo Zagreb two weeks ago, and that loss has put them in a difficult position in this group. They find themselves three points shy of the Croatian side, while they’re also trailing Trnava.
The visitors beat Anderlecht in their opening game of the group, which has set them up for a meeting with Fenerbahce this week. While the visitors can’t match the Turkish side’s European pedigree, their opening day win has got them in contention for the next round. Trnava have struggled domestically so far this season, and they’re looking to Europe to boost some morale. However, they’d take a below par domestic campaign if it brought success in Europe. Years of near misses in the qualifiers were brought to an end with their win over Olimpija, and now Spartak are hoping to build on that with yet more success.
There’s going to be little fear factor for the visitors, who come to a Fenerbahce side who have real problems. While they were part of a four way title race last season, they’re miles off the pace this time around. The hosts come into this game with seven points from six league games, and their solitary win from their last five was a narrow 1-0 win over Konyaspor, which came against the run of play.
The hosts are just two places above the drop zone, after scoring just 0.83 goals per game domestically. Their last European game brought a thumping, while Fenerbahce are winless in four games in this competition. Last summer they were beaten home and away by Macedonian side Vardar, so it’s not too far of a leap to see the visitors getting a result here. Trnava have been consistent in this competition during their qualifying attempts, losing just once in their last 10 games. That has us tempted by the big price on offer for Trnava Double Chance, as they could inflect more misery on Fenerbahce.
