Feyenoord vs Manchester United Predictions

Feyenoord have made an almost perfect start to the new season in the Netherlands. They did open the campaign with a Dutch Super Cup loss to PSV, but since then they’ve been unstoppable.

Their 5-0 win at Groningen has been followed by four more victories in the Eredivisie, with them scoring a total of 15 goals and conceding just two in their five league games so far. This puts them top of the table at this early stage as they look to pry the title from PSV’s hands.

This improvement has come from some excellent summer bargaining in the transfer market. They have brought in the likes of Nicolai Jorgensen, Steven Berghuis, and Brad Jones, with their biggest loss being 30 year old Lex Immers to Cardiff. Brad Jones wasn’t brought in as their first choice shot stopper, but with injuries to their two main goalkeepers, it’s looking like he’ll be between the sticks on Thursday.

Feyenoord’s Europa League group isn’t the easiest either. Manchester United are understandably the favourites for the top spot, but Fenerbahce are likely to put up a big fight for 2nd place. Zorya aren’t likely to make the latter stages of the competition, but they have the potential to cause some problems at home.

Manchester United’s perfect start to the season ended on Saturday afternoon in the worst way possible. They lost 2-1 at home to Manchester City, thanks to a dreadful first half showing and some questionable refereeing in the second half. All in all they deserved to lose the match, and now Jose Mourinho will be looking to bounce back in Europe.

Prior to this they have won the Community Shield and picked up deserved wins against Bournemouth, Southampton and Hull in the opening three Premier League games. Overall, Manchester United have looked a reformed team under Jose Mourinho, and they’re back to playing their best for the most part.

A visit to Feyenoord shouldn’t pose too much of a threat to a manager who is extremely talented on the continental stage. There is likely to be some rotation as the Premier League takes priority, but at this early stage in the season we can expect to see a largely first team squad. Marcus Rashford is probably the most likely to be in for a starting position ahead of the ageing Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Odds of 4/5 for a Manchester United win on Thursday look excellent value considering their overall form and the huge difference in quality between the sides, so that’s what I’m backing along with a 2-1 win for the visitors at 15/2 for my correct score prediction.
