Fjolnir vs Fh Predictions

Fjolnir are having a very successful season so far this year. They were promoted to the Iceland Urvalsdeild after their 2013 win of Iceland’s second tier, and they have made great strides forward over those few years. They finished 10th in the top flight after their promotion, a result which was improved on last term when they ended up in 6th position.

Now they are looking like challenging for the title though. They have amassed 26 points in their 14 games so far, and with just eight games to go they find themselves in 3rd position. They are just a point behind Stjarnan in 2nd place and only two adrift of league leaders and current champions FH, which means they could leap into the top spot with a win on Monday. They would go at least 2nd if they did pick up three points.

Their overall form at the moment is decent too, with five wins, one draw, and two defeats making up their last eight Urvalsdeild games. At home they have only won three of their last six outings in all competitions though, drawing against Valur and losing to Breidablik and Valur again.

FH have dipped in form as well though. The current champions have only won two of their last eight in all competitions, drawing four and losing twice as well. Two of these draws did come in their Champions League qualifying defeat to Dundalk though, where they lost on away goals to the Irish side.

In the Urvalsdeild alone they have only lost two of their 14 matches this season, with one of those coming last Monday and ending their ten match unbeaten streak in the league. They have still won five of their last eight league matches though, so it would be foolish to write them off.

Away from home FH are unbeaten in five outings in the league, with three wins and two draws to their name since a 1-0 loss to KR back in May.

The problem with Fjolnir is that they seem to struggle against the big teams in the division. They have lost all three of their matches against the other top four sides this season. The highest placed team they have beaten this term is Vikingur Reykjavik in 5th position, so their ability to get points against the big sides is under scrutiny.

This, plus the fact that FH have won 11 of their 13 total meetings with Fjolnir, including two victories this season, makes odds of 1/1 for an FH Win look decent value for money, so I’m backing that along with a 2-1 correct score prediction at 9/1.
