Grimsby Town vs Cheltenham Predictions
As we head into the busy festive period, there are a few sides who will be hoping to earn three points towards the end of November in order to build some much needed momentum ahead of the hectic upcoming schedule. This Tuesday sees managerless Grimsby Town welcome a Cheltenham Town side who will be hopeful of being able to continue with their solid recent form.
Grimsby Town parted company with boss Michael Jolley two weeks ago after a run of seven games without a win. The 42-year-old was appointed manager at Blundell Park in March 2018 and although he subsequently led them to safety in League Two before registering a 17th-place finish last season, he ultimately was not able to build on that success and help the team climb the table. With just eight points on home soil this season, a record which represents the second worst tally in the division, Jolley was always going to be under pressure. However, it is not as if things have got any better since his departure and the Mariners know that they need to pick up the pace if they are to ensure their survival this term.
The latest side to make the trip to Blundell Park is a Cheltenham Town side who will be pleased with the way that their season has gone so far as they have claimed 30 points from their 17 games so far. The visitors have two games in hand on the current league leaders and they know that if they win both of those matches, then they will be able to go level on points with the side currently in top spot. The Robins have been a force this term, but if they are to challenge for the title then they will need to improve their output away from home, as they have managed just 12 points away from home this season, albeit having played a couple of games less away than those who have a better points return.
It is a clash between a dramatically out of form side in Grimsby Town, and a Cheltenham side who have everything to gain in this fixture. The hosts poor form on home soil combined with the visitors solid recent displays means that Cheltenham should be the ones who get the win. However, with four of the last seven Cheltenham league matches finishing all square, we think it would be wise to add the “Draw – No Bet” clause.
In terms of a correct score tip, the hosts have the unfortunate combination of featuring poorly on the goals scored and goals conceded table. They have failed to score in 43% of their home league matches this season and have also failed to score in their last three league matches. This, combined with the fact that Cheltenham average 1.65 goals per game in the league, suggests to us that backing the visitors to gain a 2-0 away win is the way to go.
