Grimsby Town vs Newport County Predictions

With over half of the season gone, most sides will know exactly what they have got to do in the remaining months if they are to accomplish the goals they set themselves at the start of the campaign. This weekend sees two sides go head to head who look like they are destined for a mid-table come the end of the season as Grimsby Town welcome Newport County to Blundell Park.

Grimsby Town secured their first points in five League Two games when they recorded a 1-0 win over promotion-chasing MK Dons. It was a welcome relief following a run of form which had seen the side suffer a 3-0 rout at Forest Green Rovers and a run of fixtures which saw them lose to nil in four consecutive outings. The Mariners are not regarded as one of the most dangerous sides in front of goal in the division and with just one goal scored in their last five outings, it is an issue which will have to be addressed sooner rather than later.

Newport County’s FA Cup exertions seemed to catch up with them when they were held 0-0 at home by ten-man Port Vale in midweek. County’s 1-0 victory over out of form Exeter City just over a week ago will have come as a welcome relief for Newport County as, prior to that win, they had only managed a single point in their previous six League Two matches. A large part of County’s troubles this term is keeping the opposition at bay and, although they were able to shut out Exeter and Port Vale in recent outings, they have conceded an average of 1.61 goals per game.

Neither of these sides are at the top of their game at the moment so the chances of this one being a classic appear to be slim. With the lack of goals in Grimsby at the moment and with Newport’s recent improvement at the back, we think that backing at least one of the sides to fail to hit the back of the net with a ‘Both Teams to Score – No’ bet is the way to go in this one.
