Guingamp vs Lorient Predictions & Betting Tips, Match Previews

Guingamp endured a pretty poor season last term as they fell to a 16th place finish, with the possibility of relegation not far away come the end of the campaign. This is a significant decrease in performance from their 10th place finish the season before, but they have started the new campaign positively.

They opened the season with an impressive 2-2 draw at Monaco, one which has become even more impressive as Monaco’s form has improved. They then beat Marseille 2-1 at home before visiting Nancy and coming away with a 2-0 victory.

Guingamp’s unbeaten start to the season continued with a 1-1 draw at home to Montpellier, but on Saturday it ended as Toulouse beat them 2-1. However, they still sit in an impressive 6th position in Ligue 1, and all signs are pointing towards a much improved offering on last season.

Lorient have had less luck so far. They finished in the bottom five for the second year in a row last term, which was largely thanks to a very poor end to the campaign.

The visitors still seem to be suffering from this dismal end to the season, and they began the new campaign with four straight defeats. Caen beat them 3-2 in their opener before Bastia won 3-0 in Lorient’s back yard. Marseille and Nancy both came away with 2-0 victories as well to take their goals conceded record to ten in four games.

Lorient finally got off the mark on Saturday though when they battled to a 1-0 win at home to Lille, but their fans will be rightly worried about their prospects this season. They have looked poor going forward and even worse at the back.

Their poor defence stretches back into last season as well. On the road in Ligue 1 they have conceded six goals in their last six matches, and they have shipped at least two goals in 11 of their last 14 trips away. This will be music to Guingamp’s ears. The hosts have scored two or more goals in seven of their last ten home games in Ligue 1 and have looked impressive so far this season.

This makes odds of 11/10 for Guingamp Over 1.5 Team Goals look very good value for money, so I’m backing that along with a 3-1 correct score prediction at huge odds of 16/1.
