Ingolstadt vs Augsburg Predictions, Betting Tips, & Match Preview

Ingolstadt’s start to the new Bundesliga campaign is one of the worst by any side in years. The Bavarians have struggled to adapt – excluding an anomaly 3-3 draw at home to the out-of-form Borussia Dortmund – since three key members of their back four departed over the summer. Without them, Ingolstadt simply cannot replicate the defensive prowess they were praised for last season, conceding an average of 2 goals per match so far. Consequently, Ingolstadt remain as one of just two sides without a win from their opening eight matches (D2 L7).

Meanwhile, while fellow Bavarian side Augsburg have also hit a patch of bad form, win-less in five across all competitions, their four defeats and a draw have come from a much more difficult set of fixtures. Augsburg lost 3-1 to Bayern Munich for the second time  (1 Bundesliga and 1 DFB Pokal) in the space of a four days last Saturday, neither of which came as much of a surprise. Back-to-back 2-1 defeats away to RB Leipzig and Freiburg, both of whom have strong records at home, and a 1-1 draw at home to Schalke were also “acceptable” results for a mid-table side.

Though Ingolstadt won both fixtures against Augsburg last season, we feel the visitors have the upper hand and much better odds this time around. Augsburg’s performances have been, simply put, much better and more consistent than those of Ingolstadt – Ingolstadt are the third lowest scoring team in the Bundesliga (7 goals) and are without a win since April this year (D7 L16). Augsburg also have a decent track record away to Ingolstadt, winning or drawing in 4 of the 5 meetings (80%) there. As such, draw or Augsburg double chance at 3/4 with bet365 is potentially one of the best bets available in the Bundesliga this weekend.

Notably, Ingolstadt have lost by exactly 2 goals in four of their five most recent home matches, averaging 1 goal per match over the same period. Given all three of Augburg’s most recent away wins also had exactly 2 goals scored (see statistics), Augsburg to win 2-1 at 12/1 with bet365 also seems a very decent shout for a correct score bet here.
