Ipswich vs Stevenage Predictions

Ipswich were involved in an opening day game against Barnsley that burst into life after the interval. It was 0-0 at the break and that prompted to bring on 21 year old midfielder Grant Ward, who would go on to have a debut beyond his wildest dreams. The former Rotherham man netted a Second Half hat-trick and in doing so doubled his career goals tally as Ipswich secured a 4-2 win with David McGoldrick also getting on target.

The Tractor Boys were drawn against Stevenage in this competition last year at this stage and progressed through to a 3rd Round tie at Old Trafford and are the clear favourites to win again here. They are viewed as outsiders for the top six in the Championship so a cup run could really do plenty for their season.

As for the visitors, Stevenage got their League Two campaign underway with a disappointing 2-1 home defeat against Crewe. They ended last season quite strongly, losing only 1 of their final 9 games so were hoping to carry some of that momentum over but it wasn’t to be. There’ll be a feeling of deja-vu about this trip to East Anglia 12 months on from their last one but they would have taken enough from that to think they can give a good account of themselves again.

Stevenage have only previously played 9 League Cup ties and they’ve only won 2 of them so they don’t have any real pedigree in the competition. Ipswich looked good in the final third at the weekend creating enough chances to score 4 goals in 45 minutes and if they can play with a similar tempo here they should have enough to overpower their League 2 opponents and therefore backing Ipswich -1.0 Asian Handicap at 1.925 looks to offer value.
