LA Galaxy vs Whitecaps Predictions

It must feel like a bit of a recurring nightmare for LA Galaxy at the moment. They enjoyed a fantastic start to the campaign last season, but a poor run of form in the latter stages of the MLS led to them finishing in 5th position in the MLS Western Conference.

Once again they enjoyed a very good start to the season this year, but a 1-1 draw at Seattle Sounders ended their six match winning streak and sent them into a spiral of struggles. Their 2-2 draw at Chicago Fire in midweek made it six games without a win in all competitions, a run which has pushed them down to 4th place in the Western Conference.

Only two of these six games have been defeats, and one was in extra time in the US Open Cup Semi Final, but their lack of winning ability at the moment has left them six points adrift of leaders FC Dallas with just nine games left to play in the regular season.

Unlike their opponents, Whitecaps will have been hoping for a repeat of last season, with them surprisingly finishing 2nd in the MLS Western Conference. This season hasn’t been on a par with last term though, and they come into the final stages of the regular season down in 9th position in the table. They are only two points adrift of 6th placed Portland Timbers though, so their hopes of making it into the MLS playoffs aren’t dead yet.

Whitecaps managed to get a win in midweek as well as they comprehensively beat Sporting Kansas City 3-0, although the fact that that was in the CONCACAF Champions League doesn’t help their cause in the MLS.

In the league they have failed to win any of their last six games, losing all of the last four as well. Away from home it gets even worse, with eight defeats in their last 11 MLS outings on the road and just two wins.

Whitecaps’ main problem on the road is the fact that they simply cannot find the net. They have failed to score in each of their last five away days in the MLS, and with LA Galaxy keeping four clean sheets in their last six home games an LA Galaxy Clean Sheet at 5/4 look good value to me. I’m going for a 2-0 correct score prediction at 13/2 as well due to the fact that four of Whitecaps’ last five away games have ended 2-0.
