Lahti vs HIFK Predictions

In any league in any country the thoughts are always the same, the season is a marathon and not a sprint. It is a mantra which will be welcomed by any side who has perhaps not started the season as well as they hoped, but those sides will know that they need to start performing sooner rather than later. This Sunday’s meeting between FC Lahti and HIFK in Finland’s Veikkausliiga is a perfect example of this as both sides know that they need three points as soon as possible in order to kick start their campaign.

FC Lahti have had a pretty indifferent start to the campaign and with 14 points coming from their opening 12 matches, they currently sit in the lower half of mid-table knowing that if things don’t start to improve, then they could soon find themselves in a battle to stay in the division. The hosts know that there is plenty of room for improvement, starting with their ability to kill off the match when playing on home soil as they drew all four of their opening four home matches and they have since won one and lost one of their next two matches at home.

For fans of HIFK, they would not have been expecting too much from the campaign as the title looked beyond reach but they were too good to be involved in a scrap at the bottom. However, in the early stages of the season they struggled to put points on the board and found themselves in a battle they wished to have no part of. Fortunately for the visitors, their form has picked up of late and they come into this match undefeated in their previous six matches, drawing four and winning their last two.

This Sunday’s clash between these two sides represents a clash which pits two sides who are in desperate need of three points as they bid to pull themselves away from the scrap at the bottom. Although the visitors have found their form of late, they still hold the worst away record in the division and have an awful record in the head to head. With this in mind, we think backing a home win with the added safety net of the ‘Draw – No Bet’ clause represents the best opportunity for a decent return.
