Las Palmas vs Valencia Predictions
Gary Neville’s miserable rule at the Mestalla was brought to an end this week after just 4 months and only 3 league wins. The timing was a little bizarre coming 10 days into an international break but the threat of a possible relegation battle was clearly a risk the Valencia board couldn’t take. Former Liverpool coach Pako Ayestaran will take charge until the end of the season and he takes over a side that has lost 4 of their last 5 in the league and are only 1 point better off than their opponents and just 6 above the relegation zone.
This won’t be an easy first game either but it is an important one given Valencia will drop to 15th if they lose it. Las Palmas have found some form at just the right time to put some distance between themselves and the bottom 3. They’ve won 4 of their last 5 matches including a 1-0 win at Real Sociedad last time out. Their home record has been relatively strong too and although they’ve lost at home to the top 3 in recent weeks they have beaten Celta Vigo and Getafe on Gran Canaria.
Valencia may have fired Neville but in truth their problems run deeper than the Englishman’s inexperience. They have a few talented players but there is too much youth and not much in the way of leadership and it’s certainly hard to justify the prices they paid for several players last summer. Ayestaran has a tough job on his hands and with Las Palmas in fine form and really now believing they are going to stay up consider backing Las Palmas to win 2-0 at 11/1.
