Leganes vs Villarreal Predictions, Betting Tips and Match Previews

Villarreal come here not in the best of form, having lost 4 out of 6 games prior to a routine 3-0 win at lower league Toledo in the Copa del Rey in midweek. Fran Escriba’s side suffered a really surprising 2-0 home defeat against newly promoted Alaves last weekend so there is reason for fellow newboys Leganes to have optimism here. Defensively the Yellow Submarine just hasn’t looked that convincing in recent weeks.

They’d kept just one clean sheet in 8 outings prior to that Copa del Rey tie but they have generally still been a threat at the other end, with Nicola Sansone their most impressive forward. They did send out quite a strong side at Toledo so that win and 3 goals should give them a slight confidence boost coming into this.

Leganes have been quite vulnerable at the back so far this season. They’ve conceded 1.92 goals per game on average in La Liga which is the worst record outside the bottom three. At home they’ve let in even more than that which has contributed to them losing 5 of their last 6 home games in all competitions. They’ve not been as poor in the final third as many suspected they would be though and they deserve credit for a fairly positive approach to most matches.

With Villarreal really struggling for clean sheets at the moment and not in great form, a home goal does look likely here. However, Leganes’ home record and poor overall form points to an away win still being the most likely result. They’ve lost 5 of their last 6 in all competitions and the margin of defeat in all of those games was at least 2 goals. Against everyone but the very worst teams in the league they are starting to look a little out of their depth and Villarreal have enough attacking quality to punish them here, so an away goal or two looks near enough certain.

Therefore, backing both teams to score at 21/20 looks to offer value.
