Leicester vs Southampton Predictions
Leicester’s Champions League dream start continued in midweek when they managed to grab a 1-0 win at home to European mainstays Porto. This made it two wins out of two for the Champions League debutants and puts them top of the group and in with a great chance of qualifying for the knockout stages.
Their Premier League title defence is going less smoothly though. They lost 4-1 at Manchester United last weekend meaning they had conceded eight goals in well under a week after their 4-2 defeat to Chelsea in the League Cup.
Prior to that they seemed to be getting back on track. They had comfortably beaten Burnley 3-0 after their success in Belgium, but the 4-1 defeat to Liverpool was still heavy on their minds. They have lost three, won two, and drawn one of their Premier League games so far this season, putting them down in 12th position in the table.
Southampton began their life after Ronald Koeman in sketchy fashion as they drew to Watford, lost to Manchester United, drew at home to Sunderland, and then lost to Arsenal in their opening four Premier League games.
A 3-0 win over Sparta Prague in the Europa League group opener seemed to jump-start them though, and they went on to beat Swansea, Crystal Palace and West Ham, before earning a goalless draw at the stubborn Hapoel Be’er Sheva in midweek.
This puts them in a respectable 9th position despite their pretty awful start to the campaign, and at the moment things are looking bright for Southampton’s season.
Leicester have been decent at home in the Premier League though. They drew with Arsenal in their first game at the King Power Stadium and have since beaten Swansea and Burnley in the Premier League and Porto in the Champions League. Southampton have lost two, won one, and drawn one of their four away days in all competitions.
I think Leicester will prove too much for Southampton. The visitors lost to Manchester United and Arsenal away from home, and despite being pretty awful at the back away from home, Leicester are actually looking like a good side on home turf. Odds of 6/5 for a home win are very good value too, so I’m backing that alongside a 2-0 correct score prediction at 10/1.
