Leon vs Tigres Predictions

Sunday’s Liga MX Clausura action sees Leon going head to head with Tigres. The visitors arrive as favourites to claim the points but plenty of action is expected at both ends of the field; as is usually the case when these two meet.

After a very poor showing in the Apertura phase of the campaign, in which they finished 14th after taking just 18 points from 17 matches, Leon will be looking for a big improvement in this closing phase, with trying to sneak into a playoff spot the overall aim.

With the likes of Rubens Sambueza and Angel Mena having come in over the mid-season break, Leon’s squad certainly has a fresh feel to it and fans will be hoping that, that can aid ending what is now a 5 match winless run, sooner rather than later. That being said, having lost a staggering 5 straight home league matches, the hosts’ prospects don’t look the brightest going into Sunday’s game and they face a big ask if they are to secure a positive result.

That’s also because one of the division’s strongest outfits are in town. Possessing great financial muscle and a playing squad stacked full of talent, Tigres are undoubtedly one of the favourites to lift the Clausura crown and will be looking to do exactly that in order to make up for a play-off defeat to UNAM Pumas in the Apertura play-off quarter finals.

Having ranked as the second highest scorers in the opening half of the campaign, scoring 32 times in their 17 outings, Tigres are an attacking force that can cause damage to any opponent, but also concede an average of more than a goal a game over said fixtures, they’re also far from impenetrable at the back and will be desperate to tighten up in the coming months.

However, having won 4 of their last 5 league matches, Tigres clearly arrive with great momentum behind them and appear in far better shape than their opponents here, making them clear and obvious favourites to secure victory.

Nonetheless, at current prices it’s not the away win we’re backing but instead both nets being hit. 3 of the last 4 games between the two have seen both sides score and whilst Tigres have notched in 11 straight away matches, they’ve also conceded in 7 of said trips and we do envisage Leon at least causing them some issues, albeit in a 2-1 defeat.
