Leyton Orient vs Hartlepool Predictions

Leyton Orient missed out on the chance to move into the top seven in League Two on Friday when they lost 1-0 against Accrington Stanley, and they remain in 8th position with a one point deficit on 7th placed Wycombe. Below them they have Wimbledon within a win of leapfrogging them.

Their defeat on Friday made it two wins, two defeats, and one draw in their last five matches, results which illustrate the inconsistency that has hampered them this season. They haven’t won more than two games in a row since August, although to be fair they haven’t lost back to back games since September either.

Hartlepool narrowly avoided relegation last season, and they looked to be heading for the same struggle again a month or so ago. However, they have managed to string together a run of five matches unbeaten, picking up 11 points from a possible 15 and massively boosting their chances of survival.

They are now in 21st position in League Two, but they have a rather comfortable looking 11 point cushion over 23rd placed York.

This upturn in form has largely been thanks to a solidification of their defence. Hartlepool have now kept three clean sheets on the bounce, and they will feel confident of handling themselves well against a Leyton Orient side who have only scored two goals in their last four matches.

Five of Leyton Orient’s last six outings have resulted in fewer than three goals being scored, and each of their last four have had just a single goal to settle the match. Hartlepool have earned back to back goalless draws away from home and are looking well drilled at the back. This makes odds of 4/5 for Under 2.5 Goals look very appealing, and I’m going for another goalless draw at 9/1 as well.
