Longford Town vs Bray Wanderers Predictions
Longford Town are having a torrid time of things this season. They finished their last campaign in a safe 6th position in the League of Ireland Premier Division, but at the moment they look surefire favourites for relegation this season. They come into this match rock bottom of the table with a meager ten points from their opening 25 league matches. Longford Town have eight games to save themselves.
Even if they do return to form soon it’s going to be incredibly difficult for them. They are eight points adrift of the relegation playoff position of 11th and a huge 13 points adrift of guaranteed safety.
Longford Town aren’t even looking like mounting a fight for survival at the moment either. They have lost five matches in a row, with their last one being a 5-2 hammering at Cork City. They are also without a win in their last 13 matches in all competitions, with ten of those ending in defeat. That victory was in the Irish FA Cup as well, and in the Premier Division they haven’t won since the opening day of the season. 17 of their following 24 matches have ended in defeat.
Bray Wanderers have also had a few difficult patches this season, not least a very poor eight match losing streak back in April and May. They managed to break out of that though and embarked on a ten match unbeaten streak which only ended on Tuesday, when Cork City hammered them 4-0.
They have still managed to win five of their last nine matches though, a run of form which has taken them to 9th place in the Premier Division with a six point cushion over the relegation playoff position.
Away from home Bray Wanderers have struggled a bit more, but a recent 2-0 victory over Galway United will give them confidence as they go into a match against a Longford Town side who have lost six of their last eight home games in the Premier Division.
Many of Bray Wanderers troubles on the road are due to them failing to score. They have actually managed to keep a clean sheet in three of their last four outings on the road, whilst Longford Town have failed to score in five of their last eight home games in the league. Longford Town haven’t kept a clean sheet at home in over a year either, so I fancy the visitors to grab a goal or two.
This makes odds of 2/1 for Bray Wanderers to Win to Nil look excellent value to me, so I’m backing that along with a 2-0 correct score prediction at 7/1.
