Lorient vs Nancy Predictions & Betting Tips, Match Previews

Lorient have had a dreadful start to the new Ligue 1 season so far. They finished last term in 15th position, which was a one place improvement on the season before, but judging by their performances so far this season there will be no improvement this time round.

They opened the season with a 3-2 defeat to Caen and followed it with a 3-0 hammering at home to Bastia. Just before the international break they lost 2-0 to Marseille to make it three defeats out of three in Ligue 1. These weren’t even particularly difficult games to start the season with, and it could get a lot worse once they start facing the top sides in the division.

Fortunately for Lorient, Nancy haven’t begun any better than them. They were promoted to the top flight this season after they won Ligue 2 last year, but at their current rate of progress they’ll be making a swift return to the second tier of French football.

They did begin the season with a difficult home match against Ligue 1 runners up Lyon, and an Alexandre Lacazette hattrick saw them come away on the end of a 3-0 defeat. They followed this with a 2-0 away loss at Rennes and then another 2-0 defeat, this time at home against Guingamp.

This leaves Nancy three games into their top flight season with zero points and zero goals to their name. Unsurprisingly they reside at the bottom of the Ligue 1 table, with opponents Lorient one place above them in 19th. At least one of these teams will get their first points this weekend.

Both of these teams have been shocking at both ends of the pitch so far this season, but Lorient are edging it going forward with their two goals against Caen. This, plus the home advantage and their overall advantage in terms of quality make them the favourites for this match. I think they’ll be able to take a much needed three points on Saturday, and odds of 13/10 for this outcome look very good value for money. I’m backing a 2-0 correct score prediction at 10/1 as well.
