Macclesfield vs Forest Green Rovers Predictions

  • Macclesfield have been undefeated in their last 11 home matches.
  • Forest Green have scored in 71% of their away matches.
  • Forest Green have scored 64% of their goals away.

The hosts are difficult to beat

Macclesfield Town have plenty to cope with off the field as their well documented financial plight led them to part company with boss Sol Campbell at the start of the campaign, and with a low budget to recruit players, most thought that it would be a long and arduous season for the Silkmen. However, they have managed to show plenty of resolve in the face of that adversity and come into this match in high spirits.

If we are to focus on matters on the pitch, then the side have stayed pretty resolute and they come into this match having suffered just two defeats in their last eight league matches. Although the league table is not exactly pretty for them, they will know that they need to take full advantage of their game in hand and regain their six point lead over the side who currently occupies the drop zone.

It’s been a difficult run for the visitors

Forest Green Rovers enjoyed an excellent start to the season as they won plenty of their opening fixtures and put in an excellent platform to build from for the rest of their campaign. Much of that early success came thanks to a solid defensive base and the 25 goals they have conceded so far this season means they currently have the fourth best defensive record in the division.

However, things have tailed off over the last month or so and they go into this weekend’s contest having claimed just nine points from their last eight league matches. While they are known for their defensive stability, such poor form may have forced Rovers into a new approach as their last two matches have seen an impressive total of 10 goals scored.

Something for everyone

Although both of these sides have spent much of the season trying to keep things tight at the back so that they can keep the opposition at bay, their recent form has forced them to adopt a new approach. That change in  mindset has not been all positive as, whilst both sides have found the back of the net more frequently, both sides have only managed one clean sheet each in their both of their last eight games. All in all, we believe that run will continue and backing both teams to score looks to be the wisest move to make.

In terms of a correct score tip, whilst both of these sides are currently placing more of a focus on their attacking play, neither are massively well suited to it. The hosts average just 1.08 goals per game at home and the visitors have averaged a goal per game over their last eight matches. With this in mind, backing a 1-1 draw looks to be the way to go.
