Manchester United vs Fenerbahce Predictions
Manchester United played out their first goalless draw in competitive football in almost a year on Monday night as they held the in form Liverpool at Anfield. Considering Liverpool’s form in front of goal of late, this has to be considered a successful result.
Generally Manchester United’s success has started to dwindle though. They began the season in excellent form but have since lost to Manchester City, Feyenoord, and Watford and drawn against Stoke, leaving them 7th in the Premier League and 3rd in their Europa League group.
Individually Manchester United’s star players have just stopped performing. Zlatan Ibrahimovic was excellent in his first few Manchester United games but hasn’t found the net once in their last seven outings, whilst Anthony Martial has struggled to perform out on the left. Marcus Rashford has probably been their most dangerous player going forward recently with three goals in six league outings and one in the League Cup as well. Backing him to score anytime at 11/8 is probably your best bet in the goalscorer markets.
Fenerbahce have some troubles going forward themselves. Wingers Jeremain Lens and Moussa Sow are injured, as is striker Fernandao and midfielder Ozan Tufan. This has left them dangerously short on goals, with their top scorer being Miroslav Stoch with three goals, all of which came in the Europa League. If you were intent on backing a Fenerbahce player to score, I’d go with him at 4/1, but I’m not expecting many goals in this.
Fenerbahce’s injury crisis, plus a general absence of form at the moment, means they have only won three of their last eight games in all competitions. They have only lost once, but considering the quality of their opposition, you would expect more from them. They have only scored more than one goal in a game twice in their last seven outings as well, resulting in five of their last seven ending with fewer than three goals.
Six of Manchester United’s last ten matches have seen a shortage of goals as well, with them only scoring twice in their last three outings. They have also only scored once in the Europa League this season, whilst Fenerbahce have netted twice in the group stages. Backing Under 2.5 Goals at 1/1 looks a very good value bet to me, and I’m going for a 1-0 win for Manchester United at 6/1 as well.
