      Manchester United vs Midtjylland Predictions

Not many people gave Midtjylland a chance against Manchester United last week (except for us), but they managed to thwart an unimpressive Manchester United side and come from a goal behind to win 2-1. But now they face the more difficult task of visiting Old Trafford to try and build on their first leg success.

Manchester United won on Monday night, putting in a performance that should be expected of them to beat Shrewsbury 3-0 in the FA Cup, ending their three match winless streak. With their top four hope fading fast they will be looking to lift the Europa League this season to try and make their way back into the Champions League.

Midtjylland return to domestic action this weekend, but their hearty performance against Manchester United last Thursday showed that they are not devoid of match fitness. I would be very surprised if we saw either team rest any players for this one.

      Reasons for Betting Tips

Manchester United had 60% possession in the first leg in Denmark, and I think we can expect that number to increase further at Old Trafford. Defensively the struggling hosts have been very good on home turf this season, keeping a clean sheet in nine of their last 12 home matches.

This has included matches against top Premier League opposition, so I think Midtjylland will really struggle to create any serious openings against Manchester United, especially with the minority of possession they will undoubtedly have to deal with.

Playing without the ball for such lengthy periods is always a drain on the players, and with them only having played one competitive fixture in the last two months it will be even harder for the visitors.

      Head to Head

Last week’s first leg clash was the first time these teams have met, so Manchester United will be keen to even the scores up.

      Statistics

67% of Manchester United’s home matches this season have seen them keep a clean sheet, helping towards their low average of 0.42 goals conceded per home match.

      Team News

Manchester United – The hosts are hoping that David De Gea will be back between the sticks on Thursday, but they still have a host of injury problems. Luke Shaw, Antonio Valencia, Marcos Rojo, Wayne Rooney, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Ashley Young, Adnan Januzaj, Marouane Fellaini, and Matteo Darmian remain sidelined, although a couple of them are hoping to be back for the weekend.

Midtjylland – Experienced central midfielder Petter Anderrson remains injured, with his knee operation in September ruling him out for the entire season.
