Casa Pia

Under 1.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Fewer than two goals have been scored in three of Maritimo’s last five home league games and also in three of Casa Pia’a last four Primeira Liga contests. Meanwhile, fewer than two goals have been scored in six of ten Primeira Liga games played on a Monday night this season.

Casa Pia 1-0

Reason for tip

A 1-0 away victory seems a logical play given two of Casa Pia’s last four wins have been by that exact scoreline and the visitors have kept five clean sheets from their opening seven league games of the campaign. Maritimo have lost five of their last ten home league games 1-0 too.

Maritimo vs Casa Pia Predictions

  • Fewer than two goals have been scored in three of Maritimo’s last five home league games.
  • Fewer than two goals have been scored in three of Casa Pia’a last four Primeira Liga contests.
  • Fewer than two goals have been scored in six of ten Primeira Liga games played on a Monday night this season.

Monday night game may be another TV turkey

The Monday night game in Portugal has become a standing joke as almost every nationally televised matchup in that slot this season has been a complete turn-off. So expectations for goals and entertainment ahead of this week’s clash between rock-bottom Maritimo and sixth-place Casa Pia are pretty low.

For context, six of the ten top-flight games played on Monday night have seen one goal or fewer scored with an average of 1.7 strikes per game. The average is even lower for the games that were actually the main televised offering.

Maritimo have lost all seven of their league games this season and history does not bode well for the Greatest of the Islands’ survival chances. In the entire history of the Portuguese top flight, Maritimo is only the fifth team to reach this stage of the season without any points won and all four of their predecessors were relegated.

Maritimo sailing into troubled waters

Joao Henriques took over after Vasco Seabra was dismissed with the team bottom after losing their first five and results have not improved. The 5-0 defeat at Benfica last time out was a chastening experience for all, but not entirely unexpected as the Eagles are the class of the division right now.

This home game is a chance to show some mettle and get at least a point on the board, but they may struggle to breach a Casa Pia defence that has been the bedrock of their superb start to the season. The promoted club have kept five clean sheets in their opening seven games and, for comparison, lost only 1-0 to Benfica.

Those stats don’t suggest this game is going to break out into a high-scoring affair and feeds into the feeling that maybe one goal for the visitors will be enough.  Hence an under 1.5 goals bet is the recommendation here, and a 1-0 away victory seems a logical play given two of Casa Pia’s last four wins have been by that exact scoreline.
