There are just three matches remaining in the Hyundai A-League regular season and the Premiership title race is still wide open. Western Sydney Wanderers currently sit at the top, but four other teams are all within a win of overtaking them.

Melbourne City are one of these teams, with their 41 point total leaving them just a point behind Western Sydney Wanderers with a game in hand. If they win this match they would go into the penultimate round of A-League fixtures at the top of the table.

With a few of the top four suffering from a dip in form Melbourne City are in prime position to pip them to the post in a few weeks time. They have won four of their last five in the A-League, and at home they are in excellent form. They have won seven and drawn two of their last nine matches at the AAMI Park and are unbeaten there since November.

Wellington Phoenix have managed to grab a few rare wins recently, but it’s far too little and far too late for them. They are 2nd from bottom in the A-League with just 25 points to their name. A win on Monday could send them above Newcastle Jets, but they have no chance of making the playoffs now.

They managed to break out of their nine match winless streak back in February when they surprised everyone by beating Western Sydney Wanderers 5-2, and they come into this match having won three of their last six. This includes a win over Melbourne City at the end of February.

Away from home they have lost six of their last eight though, and I expect them to lose again on Monday. The title challengers have much more to play for and are in excellent form on home turf. I’m expecting the visitors to bag a goal though. Wellington Phoenix have scored in each of their last six away games in the A-League, whilst Melbourne City have only kept one clean sheet at home all season.
