MFM vs Abia Warriors Predictions

Both MFM and Abia Warriors are hovering precariously above the drop zone in the Nigerian Premier League ahead of their clash at the Teslim Belogun Stadium on Wednesday.

Having won just once in 10, MFM have shown little to suggest that they have the tools at their disposal to drag themselves clear of danger, and while Abia have won two of their last three at home, their away record ranks among the worst in the division.

The Warriors are one of five top-flight clubs yet to secure a victory on their travels since November, and only two teams have scored fewer away goals than Emmanuel Deutch’s men.

Under 2.5 goals

  • Under 2.5 goals were scored in 20 of MFM’s 24 league games this term.
  • Under 2.5 goals hit the net in 75% of Abia’s away fixtures this season.
  • Under 2.5 goals were registered in five of the last six meetings between MFM and Abia.

With a haul of just 17 goals from 24 Premier League fixtures so far this season, MFM have been one of the division’s least inspiring attacking forces.

More recently, their final third prowess has nose dived completely, and the Olukoya Boys failed to register in a dismal eight of their last nine matches.

Abia’s away games have been similarly low on goalmouth action for the vast majority of the 2019/20 campaign, with their fixtures on the road averaging just 1.6 goals per 90 minutes since November overall.

0-0 draw

  • MFM failed to score in eight of their last nine games.
  • Abia failed to register in 67% of their away games this season.

MFM supporters have seen their team score a total of just three goals in their last nine fixtures, and remarkably, all three of those strikes arrived in their 3-1 win over Kano Pillars back in early February.

Having not scored a single goal in their last 450 minutes of Premier League football, we think MFM lack the confidence and quality to threaten Abia on Wednesday.

Likewise, Abia’s habit of falling to pieces as the visiting team suggests that they too lack the dynamism to puncture holes in their hosts defence this week.

The Warriors scored just four times in the 12 away assignments they have navigated this season so far, and we expect their frontline to struggle again in Lagos. With the aforementioned factors considered, a low on action stalemate looks the likeliest outcome.
