Millonarios vs Atletico Paranaense Predictions, Betting Tips and Match Previews

A 54th minute penalty from Atletico Paranaense striker Grafite sealed a home win last week as the hosts gave themselves a 1-0 lead to take into this away leg against Millonarios, but it wasn’t the most emphatic of displays from a side who were expected to bag at least a couple of goals on Wednesday.

Millonarios know that they have a mountain to climb now though. They followed that midweek defeat with a 2-1 loss at Medellin in their Colombia Primera A opener, with that making it four defeats and one win in their last five games in all competitions.

Their season was an undoubted success last year as they qualified for the Copa Libertadores for only the second time this millennium, but that 2013 campaign didn’t go particularly well, as they lost five of their six group games and finished bottom of the ladder. Their singular win did come on home soil, but their weekend defeat at home made it five wins, two draws, and four defeats in their last 11 home games in all competitions.

Atletico Paranaense played out another draw at the weekend as they hosted PSTC. This extend their unbeaten streak to seven matches in all competitions, but five of those have ended all square and both of their victories have come on home soil.

Away from home things start to look seriously awry for the visitors. They haven’t won since July last year and have lost nine of their 14 trips away since then. They have managed to avoid defeat in their last three though, so they will feel confident enough to keep Millonarios at bay on Wednesday.

Atletico Paranaense did go through a real goal drought on the road at one stage last season, but they have scored in three of their last four trips away now and are facing a Millonarios side with just one clean sheet in their last nine home games. Considering the hosts need for a goal and their inability to keep a clean sheet I think odds of 11/8 for Both Teams to Score are incredibly good value, so I’m backing that along with a 2-1 win for Millonarios at 8/1.
