MK Dons vs Stevenage Predictions

With the end of the season now in clear view, we are at the stage of the campaign in which many sides have to finish with a flurry if they are to achieve the goals they set for themselves at the start of the campaign. This weekend sees two sides go head to head who have realistic promotion ambitions, as automatic promotion hopefuls MK Dons play host play-off contenders Stevenage.

MK Dons came back to earth with a bump in midweek after a shock 4-2 defeat at lowly Morecambe ended a run of five straight wins. Despite competing with Lincoln City at the turn of the year for top spot, things took a downward turn early in 2019 as the Dons’ form dipped. However, their form over the last few weeks has gone a long way to addressing that and they will be keen to return to winning ways as soon as possible as they bid to get into the top three, a feat which is only being prevented by goal difference at the moment.

Stevenage picked up their first win in six League Two games when they recorded a 2-0 home success over Swindon Town in midweek. That win means that Stevenage have managed to keep pace with the top seven and, although there is a five point gap between them and the play-offs, they still have time to bridge it and extend their season. However, if they are to accomplish that aim then they are going to have to improve on a defensive record which has seen them keep just one clean sheet in their last six outings.

Although both of these sides are going into this match in the hope they can push their bid to be playing League One football next season, the form of the hosts is a key indicator in the destination of the three points. The result in midweek aside, MK Dons have been approaching their best form of late and their visitors are in a much poorer run, which suggests to us that backing a home win in this contest represents the best opportunity for a decent return.
