Tip Reasoning

  • Wycombe take a 2-0 lead going into the second leg
  • MK Dons have beaten Wycombe three times already this season
  • Wycombe failed to beat any top six side, on the road, in the regular season

MK Dons will give it a good go

MK Dons will attempt to become the first team in over 40 years to overcome a two-goal deficit from the first leg and progress in the play-offs of English football’s third tier. MK Dons never really got going on Thursday, but Liam Manning’s side had two good chances in the first half hour and could have been two up before Wycombe took the lead seven minutes before half time. MK Dons beat Wycombe three times in the regular season and there is no reason why they can’t reverse Thursday’s result in front of their own fans.

Wycombe have it all to lose

Wycombe will certainly not be everyone’s cup of tea, but give credit where it is due, Gareth Ainsworth’s side did their job well and ultimately deserved to win the first leg. Holding onto a lead is a completely different ball game, particularly away from home and it will be interesting to see how Wycombe approach the second leg at Stadium MK. Wycombe struggled on the road against League One’s top six in the regular season – The Chairboys failed to beat any of the other five top six sides away from and will have their work cut out to end that run on Sunday.

Back Troy to make amends

Troy Parrott spurned MK Dons’ best chance on Thursday and will be keen to make amends in the second leg. The 20-year-old Tottenham loanee scored for Ireland in March and followed that by scoring three times in the final six matches of the regular season. Parrott has formed a good partnership with Scott Twine this season and MK Dons hopes of getting back into this tie rest largely on the pair’s shoulders.

MK Dons ranked as a strong fancy on Thursday, and I will not be deserting them here, I fully expect them to win on Sunday and it would not be surprised if they make the final. MK Dons to win in 90 minutes is the main selection for the second leg of this play-off semi-final at Stadium MK. Liam Manning’s side kept clean sheets in both league games against Wycombe in the regular season and another may be required if they are to qualify – the correct score prediction will be for it to finish 2-0 to MK Dons. Troy Parrott will be eager to right the wrongs of Thursday’s game and should be backed in the anytime goal scorer market on Sunday.
