NAC Breda vs Willem II Predictions

Breda sit rock bottom of the Eredivisie table with just three points from their opening eight matches, and we’re narrowly beaten 2-1 by Utrecht before the international break. On Sunday Breda will be aiming to end their seven game losing streak in league and cup when they hosts mid table Willem II. The visitors earned a decent 1-1 draw at home to Feyenoord last time out and will be looking to build upon that result with three points against the divisions bottom club.

Utrecht absolutely dominated the ninety minutes against Breda, but didn’t take the lead until stoppage time in the first half via a Simon Gustafson penalty. That same player then doubled the hosts lead just four minutes into the second half, leaving Breda with plenty of work to do to rescue something from the match.

In the sixty-fifth minute Rosheuvel did manage to pull a goal back for Breda to set up a nervy last twenty-five minutes for the hosts, but Utrecht held on to secure all three points deservedly. The home side had 65% of the overall possession, eleven corners to Breda’s two, and had fourteen shots on target to the visitors nine.

Confidence is low in the Breda camp and the final score against Utrecht could have been much worse than it was, but the struggling club must find positives to take into their next game starting with the fact they have the home advantage. On his day te Vrede will cause a handful to any defence and with three goals in the league this season the Dutchman top scores for Breda.

Willem II’s main man up front this season is Spaniard Fran Sol, who has continued his fine form from the previous campaign and will be hoping to fire his side to a top half finish this season. Sol was on hand to score the all important equaliser against Feyenoord before the international break, in a game Willem II had to dig deep in to get a decent result.

The pair went in goalless at the half time break, despite the best efforts of the visitors who controlled the first forty-five minutes and probably should have capitalised on their dominance. Berghuis did eventually break the deadlock and put Feyenoord in front via a seventy-third minute penalty, but Willem II, and that man Fran Sol, responded well and earned a share of the spoils with an eighty-fifth minute equaliser.

Willem II didn’t see a whole lot of the ball or create as many chances as their guests, but that is to be expected when playing against one of the big three teams home or away. However, the hosts were always in the match and defended well when called upon, and if they play to a similar level on Sunday then the chances are they will take home all three points.

We’re backing both teams to score and over 2.5 goals to be produced in Sunday’s match, with Willem II to run out 2-1 winners. Both teams have scored in five of the last six meetings between Breda and Willem II. Over 2.5 goals have been scored in four of the last six meetings between Breda and Willem II. Both teams have scored and over 2.5 goals have been produced in three of Breda’s last six matches, as well as in five of Willem II’s last six matches, and we’re expecting more of the same on Sunday.
