New England Revolution vs Portland Timbers Predictions
- New England Revolution have picked up just one point from their opening two games.
- Portland Timbers have won one and lost one so far this season.
- New England have scored twice but conceded three times.
- Portland have the same record with two goals scored and three conceded.
New England waiting for season to kick into life
New England have had a below par start to the season with an opening day loss to Montreal and a 1-1 draw with Chicago Fire kicking things off. The side were a little unlucky in their match with Montreal and should’ve taken something from the game but were outplayed by Chicago at times.
The managed just three shots on target last weekend against The Fire and that will worry head coach, Bruce Arena, slightly. They have been finding the net though and the likes of Bou and Buksa in the starting eleven mean they always carry a threat in the final third. They are still waiting for their first win of the season and they face a tough test as Portland come to town.
Ups and downs for Portland already
Portland Timber’s opening day loss to Minnesota hasn’t quite been forgotten despite the side claiming a victory over Nashville last weekend. The team lost comprehensively on the opening day and their performance against Nashville didn’t set pulses racing either in what has been a lacklustre start to 2020 for The Timbers.
They’ve managed just five shots on goal across their two matches, with both of their opponents outshooting them so far but Diego Valeri looks as though he could be just as vital for the side this season with the attacker scoring both of their goals in 2020. They need to improve but an away game might give them the opportunity to sit back a little bit and build their game a little more.
Nothing to separate these two sides
We can’t see anything between these two sides coming into this game with neither looking head and shoulders above the other in the opening two games of the season. We think the spoils will be shared this weekend and that leads us to the conclusion that the asian market gives us the best value with the line currently set at 0.5. We’re backing Portland to take something from the game on the asian handicap market with them being the benefactors of the +0.5 line.
We don’t think Portland are winning this game outright though and a draw definitely looks like it could be on the cards. We think both teams will find the net but can’t see this being a high scoring game as they both continue to find their feet in the new season. With that in mind, we’re predicting this game finishes 1-1.
