New York Red Bulls vs Montreal Impact Predictions
New York Red Bulls missed out on the chance to go top of the MLS Eastern Conference last weekend, but they at least managed to keep their points deficit the same. They faced current leaders Toronto FC and came away with a 2-2 draw away from home, leaving them in 2nd position with a two point gap to make up on the leaders. Toronto FC have a game in hand as well though, and if New York Red Bulls want to retain their MLS Supporters Shield, they will have to make up the seven point deficit they have on Western Conference leaders FC Dallas as well.
This draw did make it an impressive 16 games without defeat for New York Red Bulls, and it’s a sort of streak they needed, after losing six of their opening seven games this season. They have done well to recover from that awful start, but with four games remaining there is still a lot of work to be done.
The hosts have drawn a few more games than they would have liked during this unbeaten spell, with only half of these 16 games ending in a win. At home in the MLS things are a lot more rosy though, with nine of their last 11 games ending in victory and the other two being draws.
Montreal Impact were up there, involved in the race for the top spot at one point this season, but that challenge has tailed off quickly and they now aren’t even guaranteed a playoff position. They have 38 points from their 29 games, leaving them nine points off the leaders and just four points above 7th placed DC United.
They lost pretty convincingly last weekend when New England Revolution came to town and went away with a 3-1 win under their belts. This made it four wins, two draws, and one win in their last seven outings.
These defeats tend to be pretty heavy as well. Those four losses have seen Montreal Impact concede 13 goals, with at least three being conceded in each one. Their most recent away defeat came in the middle of August as well, as New York Red Bulls beat them 3-1.
The hosts have scored at least three goals in two of their last four games as well, so this doesn’t spell good news for a Montreal Impact side who tend to collapse when they go behind. I think odds of 2/1 for New York Red Bulls Over 2.5 Team Goals are incredibly good value, and that’s what I’m backing along with another 3-1 correct score prediction at 11/1.
