Newcastle Jets vs Brisbane Roar Predictions

Newcastle Jets had the chance to move into the Hyundai A-League playoff zone last week but failed to claim all three points at home to Central Coast Mariners, leaving them two points adrift of Western Sydney Wanderers going into the final six games of the regular season.

This 1-1 draw extends their winless streak to four matches in the A-League, and they have won two, drawn four, and lost four of their last ten outings in the league. One of these victories did come in an away match against Brisbane Roar, so that could give them the psychological edge coming into this hosting of them.

Brisbane Roar’s Asian Champions League campaign seems to be adversely affecting their performances at the moment. They were thrashed 6-0 at Ulsan on Tuesday, to extend their winless streak to five games and resign them to back to back defeats for the first time since the start of 2017.

In the Hyundai A-League they are still looking difficult to beat, with two wins, three draws, and one loss in their last six outings. All of these failures to win have come consecutively though, and they will want to get back to winning ways soon.

Brisbane Roar do have a rather comfortably cushion in the A-League playoff zone, sitting 5th in the table but eight points clear of 7th placed Newcastle Jets. They are only a point behind 3rd placed Perth Glory as well, so there is still time for a good finish in the table.

Away from home in the A-League they have only won three times in the past 13 months, with this season’s record reading as three wins, five draws, and three defeats. Two of these defeats came against an out of form Central Coast Mariners as well. Newcastle Jets, meanwhile, have avoided defeat in each of their last six home league games, with four of them ending all square.

Stalemate’s have been the order of the season for both of these sides, with the hosts seeing draws in 55% of their home games and Brisbane Roar drawing 45% of their trips away. This makes odds of 13/5 for a Draw on Sunday look good value for money, so I’m going for that along with a 1-1 correct score predictions at 6/1.
