Newcastle Jets vs Brisbane Roar Predictions
- Newcastle Jets have lost three in a row, falling to the bottom of the league following last weekend’s humiliating 6-2 defeat to Perth Glory.
- Brisbane Roar’s form hasn’t been much better, losing three of their last four games and conceding seven in their last two games.
- Newcastle Jets have conceded an average of four goals over their last three games.
- Brisbane Roar have only averaged a goal a game this season as their struggles in front of goal continue, with the side scoring one or less in seven of their nine games this season.
Can The Jets climb off the foot of the table?
Newcastle Jets have struggled to really get going this season, winning just two of their nine games. They haven’t been able to find much form at all and are currently on a three-match losing streak, conceding 12 goals in that time as they struggle to keep teams out in their own half.
They can consider themselves a little unlucky, though, as they’ve only conceded 20 shots on goal in those three games. Indeed, the rate at which they’ve been conceding isn’t sustainable and they would hope luck would be a little bit more on their side this weekend.
Will Roar be the side that separates themselves at the bottom?
Brisbane Roar have an almost identical record to Newcastle Jets, only being kept off the very bottom of the league on goal difference. Their recent form is also slightly better, having picked up a solitary win in their last four, a 2-0 victory over Central Coast. Outside of that result, they have lost three, conceding nine in that time.
They have yet to pick up consecutive points so far this season, their wins being bookended by losses. Head coach Robbie Fowler will be looking to pick up a win here as they face the only team lower than them in the table. But with an average of just a goal a game this season, it doesn’t look too promising for The Roar.
Is there anything between the sides?
It looks hard to separate these sides, with near identical records, and we can’t see either running away with the win. It’s hard to even see either team finding the net with much regularity and we’re backing the game to see under 2.5 goals, with both sides struggling in front of goal.
As both teams really look poor in the final third and we are predicting there won’t be many goals in the match, we’re also predicting a rare A-League 0-0 result. Both sides average close to a goal a game and we think they could well cancel each other out in a goalless draw.
