Northern Ireland vs Latvia Predictions
Despite dropping off the boil towards the end of their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign, Northern Ireland still managed to end the group stage at the summit of Group F.
They only lost once in their ten group matches, with a 2-0 defeat in Romania taking away their unbeaten record.
Six of their ten matches ending in victory for Northern Ireland, and they eventually finished on 21 points, one point ahead of Romania and five points clear of 3rd placed Hungary.
But as I mentioned before, they have dropped off the boil recently. They have only won two of their last six outings, including a disappointing friendly draw at home to Qatar. They are lucky they had a relatively easy group to make their way through.
The home side will be confident of getting a result on Friday though, with Latvia visiting Northern Ireland in terrible form.
Latvia didn’t manage a single win in their qualifying campaign, with five draws and five defeats seeing them finish at the bottom of Group A.
However, four of these draws came in their five away games in the group, with fairly impressive results being recorded against Czech Republic, Iceland, and Turkey on the road.
But victory is much harder to come by for the Latvians. They haven’t recorded a win away from home since 2011, with 21 matches being played since that 1-0 win in Georgia.
These two sides met during qualification for Euro 2008, with both of them taking a 1-0 victory apiece. But Northern Ireland have improved since then, and they will be very confident of avoiding defeat against a Latvia side who just can’t seem to get a win. They haven’t won in over a year now.
Northern Ireland are understandably the bookies favourites for this game, and I think they can ride to victory on the back of their qualification success on Friday. Odds of 4/6 for a home win look fair to me as well.
