Norwich vs Ipswich Predictions

There is no love lost between these two. Ipswich don’t have much to play for but they’d love to thwart the promotion dreams of their bitterest rivals, although the recent history of this fixture suggests that’s unlikely to be the case.

Ipswich have really struggled on their recent trips to Carrow Road but do at least head there in reasonably good form right now. They’ve picked up a few results in games you might have expected them to lose and come into this game unbeaten in 4 matches. Given 3 of those games were against sides currently in the top six, a little bit of pressure has eased on Mick McCarthy and there’d be no better way to win the fans back round than by securing victory at Norwich.

They have struggled on the road overall though. Ipswich have lost 50% of their away Championship games this season and average just 1 point per game on their travels. Scoring goals has been the main problem and they’ve only netted 0.75 goals per game on the road whilst conceding 1.31.

Ipswich may need more than 1 goal to get a result here. Norwich have been scoring freely at home all season and average an impressive 2.25 goals per game on their own patch. They’ve suffered plenty of recent setbacks away which are really threatening to end their bid for an immediate return to the top flight but there’s precious little wrong with their home form. The Canaries have won 69% of their home games this season and only 2 Championship sides can better their average of 2.19 points per home game.

They have one of the league’s form strikers in Cameron Jerome. He has netted in his last two appearances and in 5 of his last 8 and is their main danger-man in the final third. Therefore, backing Jerome to score anytime at 7/5 looks good here.

Norwich do have several other threats though and have scored twice or more in all of their last 6 home games and in 13 of their last 16 at Carrow Road, in all competitions. Given that, backing Norwich to score over 1.5 goals at 5/6 looks to offer value and their recent home record against Ipswich certainly backs that up.
