Oldham managed to hold League One leaders Burton Albion to a goalless draw on Saturday to take their points tally up to 38 from 37 games, but it wasn’t enough to drag them out of the bottom four.

They remain in 21st position, one point adrift of Blackpool above them but with two games in hand on them. They aren’t in the worst form of their lives either having lost just two of their last 11 matches in League One.

However, finding a win is proving difficult. They have only won one of their last six matches, but they know that a win on Monday could be enough to take them into the safe zone in the table.

Chesterfield aren’t safe themselves. Their goalless draw with Fleetwood on Saturday leaves them in 18th position with just five points between them and the relegation zone, although they are also proving difficult to beat.

Just one of Chesterfield’s last eight matches has ended in a loss for them, but four draws mean that their points tally has remained relatively low.

Goalscoring is proving quite a large issue for both Oldham and Chesterfield. Oldham have scored five goals in their last six matches while Chesterfield have managed the same ratio. This has resulted in a lot of low scoring matches seven of Oldham’s last 11 and seven of Chesterfield last ten ending with fewer than three goals scored. Their lack of scoring is likely to be emphasised by the fact that both teams will be doing their utmost to avoid defeat.

This makes odds of 4/6 for Under 2.5 Goals a profitable proposition, and I’m backing that along with a 1-1 draw at 11/2.
