Orlando City vs Portland Timbers Predictions
Orlando City had a respectable debut season in the MLS last term, but ultimately missed out on the playoffs when they came 7th in the Eastern Conference. They still managed to outperform fellow newcomers New York City FC though, so that will have pleased them.
This season their aim is certainly to make the playoffs, and they have started well with back to back draws against Real Salt Lake and Chicago Fire and a win last time out agains tNew York City. This win was thoroughly undeserved though; they struggled to get any sort of foothold in the game and could have easily conceded three or four goals had the New York City attack been firing.
However, a win is a win, and Orlando City come into this match unbeaten in the MLS, something which their opponents can’t claim. Portland Timbers managed to surprisingly win the MLS Cup last season with a 2-1 victory over Columbus Crew in the Final, a scoreline which they repeated in their opening game of the MLS season.
They followed this with a loss to San Jose Earthquakes though after conceding two first half goals and failing to recover. Last time out they also conceded two goals without replying, but did manage a comeback as they scored two in the final 11 minutes to secure a point against Real Salt Lake.
Both teams have shown that they possess some threat going forward this season, with Orlando City netting four in their opening three games and Portland Timbers scoring five. But their defence have let them down slightly, and they have just one clean sheet between them in the opening six combined matches.
This extends into last season as well. Orlando City have only kept two clean sheets in their last 13 outings and have seen both sides hit the back of the net in six of their last nine. Portland Timbers have had both teams on the scoresheet in each of their last six outings in the MLS.
This makes odds of 4/6 for Both Teams to Score excellent value for money, and I’m backing that along with a 2-2 correct score prediction at 11/1.
