Palermo vs AC Milan Predictions

Second from bottom Palermo host third place AC Milan this weekend in Serie A. The visitors are having a fantastic season, which sees them leading the way in the race for the final Champions League place. While things are going a lot better than expected for them this year, the Italian giants do have a few worries which need addressing.

The main one is that their goal of European football seems like too much for them right now. The seven time European cup winners don’t have the squad to deal with extra competition. They’ve won four out of their last five, but that one defeat came in a midweek game. They saw off Juventus at home, and then slipped up in their midweek game. Their players looked sapped in that defeat at Genoa.

A mix of their short squad and a few injury worries cost them that away game, but they can expect better here. For one, Milan are back down to just one match per week. They’ve proven they are a match for anyone, as long as their squad is rested. That should be true against a team in massive relegation danger. This is widely expected to be an away win, which will aid their Champions League push.

Palermo have lost every one of their home matches this season. They’ve managed just one win overall this term, while they boast an awful defensive record. They’ve conceded 57% of their total goals at home, while they concede 2.4 goals in each outing in front of their own fans. They’ve won none of their last six, and it’s hard to see this being the scene of their big turnaround. Things might be about to get worse for the Rosanero.

Of their five home defeats, 60% have been by more than one goal. That includes three of their last four matches here. Two of those have been lost by a three goal margin. Their last four at home have seen 11 goals scored against them. They give away far too many chances, they face 16 shots per game on average. Their defence is poor at home, with 15% of those shots hitting the back of the net.

Given Palermo’s struggles, we see a comfortable win for Milan this weekend. There’s an obvious gulf in class, and the hosts are leaking far too many goals to compete with the side in third. We’re backing the visitors on the -1.00 Asian Handicap, which is priced at 23/20 with bet365.
