Palermo vs Crotone Predictions
This is a meeting of two sides who have very little going for them at the moment. This is a clash between the worst home record and worst away record in Serie A, with both mired in the relegation zone and looking set for a drop down to Serie B. Can they take a huge step towards 17th place by seeing off one of their rivals in the fight for survival? Given how they approach this match, it’s difficult to see a big display from either, as they drift towards the drop.
Neither of these two sides look like clear winners on current form. Crotone travel in to this game having failed to win an away match all season, losing 82% of their away trips so far. They average just 0.18 points per game on their travels, yet somehow they come in to this clash with the marginally better form of these two teams.
Palermo have claimed just 9% of their points at home this season, with is a truly awful return. They’ve lost 90% of their matches at the Renzo Barbera, with a solitary draw their only point here all campaign. It’s no wonder they’re so far adrift from safety, with a massive 10 points separating them from 17th place.
The Rosanero have another new boss in the dugout, after Diego Lopez enjoyed his first game last weekend. Having got one game under his belt, he’s basically a long term appointment as far as Palermo are concerned. Their last boss, Eugenio Corini, was the eighth manager they hired in 2016. He lasted just six weeks in charge, before packing up after coming under pressure from the board. Obviously that kind of shambolic organisation is going to look rudderless on the pitch.
Palermo have conceded in every home game this season, while they’ve failed to score in 60% of their outings at their own ground. That attacking record is so poor that it might actually lead to a first away clean sheet for Crotone in the top flight. They’ll be at least expecting to take a result out of this game, given how poor the hosts have been here. the visitors have been boosted by a 2-2 draw at Genoa in their last away game, while they beat Empoli 4-1 at home last weekend.
Their victory on Sunday came thanks to a hat-trick from Diego Falcinelli, who has struck eight goals for Crotone this season, accounting for 40% of the goals they’ve scored. He’s a talented player for the level he’s currently at, and he could be the kind of player to make a difference here. The forward is worth a look to score any time, which is 2/1 with bet365.
Given their positive recent results, and Palermo’s shocking record in front of their own fans, we’re backing a result for Crotone here. We’re expecting a draw, which is a 9/4 chance with bet365, but to play things on the safe side we’re going with Crotone or Draw on the double chance market, at 4/6 with bet365. Since the Rosanero have lost so many home games, it’s worth also covering the away win, especially after the visitors hit scoring form a week ago.
