A chastising 5-1 defeat to the USA last time out ended Panama’s hopes of qualifying for consecutive World Cup finals for the first time in their history after going out in the group stage of the 2018 edition.

That result means they can finish just one point shy of the promotion spots, though the incentive to do that is small at best. Home form has kept Panama in the hunt for so long as they are actually yet to lose on home soil in this campaign (W3, D3) though this is arguably their toughest task yet.

Given that Panama won just one of the 11 historical meetings between these nations, it seems nonsensical that they have never lost a match against Canada on home soil (W1, D3). However, a 4-1 defeat in the reverse points to a big gulf in class between these sides.
