Paraguay vs Colombia Predictions

Paraguay have put in some good shifts during this World Cup qualification campaign,  considering the relative lack of talent in their squad when compared to some of their counterparts. They come into this match in 6th position, ahead of the likes of Chile, Bolivia, Peru and Venezuela. They are actually only four points adrift of the top spot, and a win here could take them as high as 2nd in the table.

Last time out their lack of quality was made evident when they visited leaders Uruguay though, with the hosts coming away with a 4-0 victory under their belts. This made it four defeats, three draws, and one win in their last eight games in all competition, including their Copa America group stage knockout.

In this World Cup qualification campaign they have won three, drawn three, and lost two though, which isn’t a bad record considering they’ve had to play Ecuador, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay. They only lost one of these matches, so they will feel they have a good chance of holding the visitors at bay. At home they are unbeaten this campaign, winning two and drawing two. The two victories were against Chile and Bolivia and their draws were against Argentina and Brazil.

This should worry Colombia, because they aren’t in the greatest of form at the moment. They lost 2-1 last time out to Brazil after a 2-0 win at home to Venezuela. This followed on from their ill fated Copa America campaign which saw them claim the 3rd place medal after being knocked out of the semi finals by Chile.

In qualification they have won four, drawn one and lost three. Only one of their victories has come away from home though, with their away record standing at one win, one draw and two defeats. However, these defeats were against Uruguay and Brazil.

I can see both teams finding the net in this one. Colombia have only failed to score in one of their last five away days in World Cup qualifying but have conceded in all but one of them too. Paraguay have seen both teams score in five of their last six qualifying games at home, including each of their last three. This makes odds of 10/11 for Both Teams to Score look good value, and I’m backing that along with a 2-2 correct score prediction at 14/1.
