PSG to Win and Over 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Paris Saint-Germain have won 13 and drawn four of their last 17 home games. They have the quality and momentum to overpower a Rennes side that have lost two of their last five away games, including Sunday’s Ligue 1 contest at Strasbourg.

PSG 3-1

Reason for tip

PSG have scored three or more goals in six of their last eight home French cup ties. They should be able to get in front against a Rennes side that have conceded in seven of their last eight away games, including three away to AC Milan at the San Siro. But Rennes usually get a goal against PSG and can push the hosts all the way in this one before their quality prevails by 3-1.

PSG can power on to domestic double

A return to the French Cup Final beckons for Paris Saint-Germain, who host Rennes in Wednesday’s semi-final at Parc Des Princes.

Luis Enrique’s side are gunning for the domestic double and can put out a very strong team for this clash in the wake of Sunday’s 2-0 win at Marseille that kept them 12 points clear at the top of Ligue1.

The win at Orange Velodrome was not without complications as defender Lucas Beraldo received his marching orders for a professional foul in the first half with the score still 0-0. But PSG’s quality took over eventually and Enrique was even able to remove a frustrated Kylian Mbappe in the second half to keep him fresh for this clash.

Rennes tend to up their game against PSG

Rennes failed to show up for their league game at Strasbourg on Sunday, losing 2-0 to a team that had been beaten in their three previous home games. Julian Stephan’s side dominated possession, but failed to make much of it, with Strasbourg keeper Alaa Bellaarouch having few saves to make.

Racing threatened on both the counter and from set pieces with regularity, which will be a huge concern for Stephan ahead of this cup clash. Rennes will probably raise their game for this contest — as they did when drawing 1-1 at Parc Des Princes last month and winning there last season, but PSG will probably have too much.

Rennes’ record of scoring against PSG is encouraging enough to back over 2.5 goals in the game with a home win and the hosts might be able to cover that number themselves if they get their noses in front in the early stages.
