Tip Reasoning

Sunday’s Argentine Superliga action sees San Lorenzo visiting Patronato. The away side will be desperate to pick up the win as they look to hold onto a Copa Libertadores spot.

In the short run, there’s little riding on the game for Patronato with the side safe this year, but set to start next year in the drop zone on the average points table, picking up a result is still of vital importance. Juan Pumpido’s troops have looked strong in stages of this season but have started to drop down the table in recent weeks, currently standing 20th at the time of writing.

Sebastian Ribas and Adrian Balboa had formed a formidable partnership in attack, but goals are now starting to dry up, with El Rojinegro having only found the net in 2 of their last 6 outings, of which they’ve lost 4. Patronato totally collapsed in a crushing 4-0 defeat away at Colon last time out and there’s a fear what had been a fairly successful campaign is petering out on a sour note, with confidence now low in the camp.

Meanwhile, although far from fantastic, San Lorenzo got the job done last week with a 1-0 triumph over already relegated Chacarita. Claudio Biaggio’s troops had been in title contention earlier on in the campaign but now find themselves in third place, looking to maintain the 4 point gap between themselves and Independiente, as those who come in the top 5 gain entry into next year’s Copa Libertadores.

Whilst they’ve not been playing particularly exciting football, El Ciclon have been in decent form in recent weeks, a freak 5-0 home defeat to Godoy Cruz aside, winning 5 of their last 7 matches across all competitions. Currently unbeaten in 4 away from home, 2 of which wins, confidence is certainly high in the visiting camp coming into this one and fans will be hoping that transcends into three points.

Ultimately, we do envisage San Lorenzo winning the game and backing them to do so looks to provide good value. Patronato are dropping like a stone at the minute and are not functioning well at either end of the pitch.

Whilst it’s rarely pretty, San Lorenzo are capable of grinding out results against just about anyone. Their last 3 victories have all been by 1-0 margins and it’d be no great surprise to see them win by that scoreline again, something we’re happy to get behind in addition to our main tip.
