After surprisingly winning the MLS Cup last season with a 2-1 win over Columbus Crew, the holders of the cup kicked their season off with a repeat 2-1 win against Columbus Crew. It all went south after that though.

They lost their next game against San Jose Earthquakes, and they failed to win any of their four games following that first defeat. They got their own back on San Jose Earthquakes with a 3-1 win earlier this month though, and they followed it with a draw at New England Revolution to make it two wins, three draws, and three defeats in their opening eight MLS matches.

This leaves them in a disappointing 8th position in the MLS Western Conference though, already eight points off the top spot and four outside the playoff zone.

Toronto FC are residing in 3rd position in the Eastern Conference, with their seven games so far resulting in a total of 11 points, leaving them two points off the top spot with a game in hand over Montreal Impact.

Despite their promising position towards the top of the table it’s not been a particularly impressive start to the season from Toronto FC. They won their opener against New York Red Bulls, but then embarked on a four match winless streak before securing back to back wins against DC United and Montreal Impact.

To be fair to Toronto FC, all of their games so far have been away from home. If they can maintain this sort of away record throughout the season and supplement it with a good home record they will be looking at a promising season. This is their final away match before they embark on a run of four home games on the trot.

Portland Timbers have only managed to win two of their four home fixtures this season as well, so I think the visitors have a good chance of getting something from this match. They have only lost one of their six matches against Portland Timbers as well, so odds of 4/5 for a Toronto FC Win or Draw Double Chance are looking excellent value for money. I’m going for a 1-1 correct score prediction at 11/2 as well.
