Portsmouth vs Crawley Town Predictions & Betting Tips, Match Preview

Portsmouth have been tipped by many, including us, to be the ones to claim the League Two title at the end of the season and after the opening couple of matches it looked as if that tag was a burden they were struggling to deal with. The visit of Colchester United a few weeks ago saw them kick start their season with a 2-0 win and they backed that result up with a 1-0 away win against Exeter last week. Despite a high scoring defeat to Yeovil Town midweek in the Checkatrade Trophy, much of the Pompey success has been built on a strong defensive unit and they currently boast the joint best defensive record in the division.

Crawley are one of this season’s over achievers so far this season and they will be looking to bounce back to form after defeat in their last league outing. They did manage to bounce back in the cup with a 1-0 win over Colchester and, like their hosts, they’ve found a tight defense is the best way to start building up points. Crawley have managed to find the net in every one of their fixtures so far but they are yet to finish a game comfortably as they haven’t managed to score more than once in a game.

Even though Portsmouth are returning to form, this Crawley side have shown plenty to suggest they can more than hold their own against anyone in the division. We are quite surprised at how short the odds are for a home win and are tempted by the Crawley double chance bet at 12/5 but, given the defensive strengths of both of these sides, we think that an under 2.5 goals bet at 21/20 represents the best value.
