Racing Club vs Boca Juniors Predictions
Having last won the competition in 1967, Racing Club will be keen to bring home the trophy for a second time in their history and have started well, topping the group and going unbeaten so far. Their first match saw them face Club Bolivar at home, scoring 3 first half goals and scoring a 4th before conceding a late consolation goal to end the game 4-1. Next up they travelled across the city to Boca Junior’s ground, the tight game ending in a 0-0 draw before playing Deportivo Cali away. The game started badly for the visitors, conceding 2 goals before half time. Racing Club came back stronger though, managing to score 2 goals themselves before midfielder Francisco Cerro was sent off in the 85th minute and the game finished 2-2, though not before Deportivo also had a man sent off. The return fixture was less of a tight game, Racing scored 3 first half goals before a 49th minute goal for Deportivo may have sparked hope of a comeback, Racing scored again through Roger Martinez however, and although the visitors scored again, the match finished 4-2.
Boca Juniors find themselves 2nd in the group, and with only 2 points separating them and Racing Club, they will feel a win here can propel them into first position. Despite winning the cup 6 times in their history, the most recent in 2007, Boca have not started the group as well as they may have liked. They kicked off their tournament with a 0-0 draw away to Deportivo Cali before recording the same 0-0 result at home to Racing Club. They scored their first goal of the tournament away against Club Bolivar, initially conceding in the 28th minute and despite having 18 shots in the game, they struggled to put them on target, finally breaking the home team’s hearts when Federico Carrizo scored in the 96th minute to end the match at 1-1. They managed their first win of the competition when they faced Club Bolivar again, at home this time they found their finishing ability and scored 3 goals without reply from Fernando Gago, Carlos Tevez and Federico Carrizo, before the visitors bagged a consolation goal from Juanmi Callejon and the match finished up at 3-1.
