Rangers vs Alloa Athletic Predictions
Rangers are having a month that they will remember for a very long time. The unfortunate club finally confirmed their return to the Scottish Premiership with a 1-0 win over Dumbarton at the beginning of April, and they followed this up with a Challenge Cup Final win against Peterhead the weekend after. Not content with two pieces of silverware they then made their claim for the Scottish FA Cup with a thrilling penalty shootout win over arch rivals Celtic in the semi final last weekend.
They did follow this with a midweek defeat in the league to Hibernian, but that isn’t something that’s going to concern them considering the fantastic season they are having after a lengthy spell in the depths of the lower flights of Scottish football.
They still have a job to do in the Scottish FA Cup though, and they will want to win their remaining three league matches to maintain their confidence as they prepare for a final clash with Hibernian in May in what will be an all Scottish Championship cup final.
Alloa Athletic aren’t having the same joy as their hosts though. They are already relegated from the Scottish Championship after picking up just 19 points from their 34 league games this season. But they are trying to leave the second flight with a flourish, and five of their 19 points have come from their last three games.
The visitors have managed draws against Livingston and Queen of the South, with an impressive 1-0 win over Hibs in between. But Hibs were out of form at that point, and visiting the Ibrox Stadium to face a Rangers side sky high will be a different task all together.
Rangers will be looking to put together some good results ahead of their cup final and the players will be out to impress as they look to ensure a starting line up spot against Hibs in May. This could lead to a thrashing for Alloa Athletic, especially considering that they conceded almost three goals per game away from home.
There have been at least four goals in eight of Rangers’ last nine matches in all competitions, and Alloa Athletic have a shocking defensive record on the road. Odds of 8/11 for a Rangers Win and Over 3.5 Goals look good to me, and I’m going for a 4-1 correct score prediction at 12/1 too.
