RB Leipzig vs Aston Villa Predictions

  • RB Leipzig have lost all five matches in this season’s Champions League
  • Aston Villa have conceded just one goal across their five Champions League fixtures this season
  • Jhon Duran has scored nine goals in all competitions this season

Villans unlikely to get any trouble off Leipzig

RB Leipzig are all but out of this season’s Champions League following five straight losses and their campaign in Europe’s elite competition could end with a whimper.

The German side are pointless after five straight defeats and they would need to win their remaining three fixtures to have any chance of earning a play-off spot.

That looks unlikely as Aston Villa are out prediction to win this encounter, with Sporting the next European giant to visit the Red Bull Arena on matchday seven.

Matchday eight will see a trip to Sturm Graz but by then Leipzig could be completely out of the running, so it is hard to see them putting up much of a fight against Villa who have got back on track in recent outings.

A miserable spell from the end of October saw Unai Emery’s go eight matches without a win, but they have steadied the ship with wins over Brentford and Southampton in the Premier League and we predict their revival to continue with a triumph over Leipzig on Tuesday.

Another clean sheet in the offing

Aston Villa started their Champions League campaign in fine style with three straight wins with all coming with clean sheets attached. A 1-0 win over Bayern Munich was a particular high point but the Villans have since hit the skids with a loss and a draw with Club Brugge and Juventus respectively.

The loss to Brugge came in bizarre circumstances with Tyrone Mings picking up the ball in the penalty area to hand the Belgian side a golden gift of a penalty, but otherwise Villa have shown a resolute side in this competition and we predict another clean sheet for the Birmingham side.

Leipzig have been shut out by Liverpool and Inter in this competition so far this season, and with enthusiasm likely to be at a low ebb, Villa to win with a clean sheet too is our prediction.

Duran could be Jhonny on the spot again

Jhon Duran has shown himself to be a fine finisher, and although he may start this contest on the bench, another goal for the Villa super-sub can’t be ruled out.

The Colombian scored Villa’s winner in the 1-0 success over Southampton and he was on the mark in the Champions League wins over Bayern Munich and Bologna.

Should Duran be introduced from the bench by Emery on Tuesday, then there is a chance Leipzig could be even more vulnerable by then, so another goal for the in-form forward is our prediction.
