Red Bull Salzburg vs Eintracht Frankfurt Predictions
- Frankfurt registered more than double Salzburg’s shots on target during the first leg.
- Frankfurt have scored in 100% of their travelling Europa League matches.
- Salzburg conceded two or more in each of their three home games in the Champions League before entering this competition.
Uphill struggle on the cards
It was never going to be easy facing Frankfurt away from home, though as a side coming out of the Champions League, Salzburg would’ve been hoping to hold their own at Commerzbank-Arena. Unfortunately, thanks to a lack of defensive solidity, they were unable to do that. A late spot-kick from South Korean forward Hwang Hee-Chan has given Thursday’s hosts some hope, but their struggle remains an uphill one.
Going forward, despite losing two of their best forward players in January, Salzburg offered a threat in Germany, but they failed to match their hosts, who were particularly effective on the break. On home soil, Jesse March’s men could be expected to do better, but with the aggregate score-line forcing them to push for goals, it’s tough to envisage the hosts putting on a defensive masterclass. After all, they conceded two or more in each of their three home Champions League group matches.
Visitors in command
Salzburg remain a capable side, particularly offensively, so Frankfurt will have to keep their wits about them in Austria, but it would be a massive failure on their part if they weren’t to go through, such if the strength of their position.
Conceding an away goal will have been disappointing, especially as they were just a few minutes away from keeping a clean sheet, though the visitors have a three-goal advantage and the very real possibility of adding away goals of their own. After all, scoring goals hasn’t been something that Frankfurt have struggled with in the Europa League this season, scoring 12 in seven matches.
Visitors to hit their stride again
The early betting suggest that Salzburg should be doing much better at home and they might just do that, though at the prices, the visitors look a good bet to once again thrive offensively. Punters are advised to take, ‘Frankfurt to Score Over 1.5 Goals’. The Germans proved their goal-scoring abilities last week, and with the hosts now very much chasing the tie, there should be no shortage of space for the likes of Kamada, Kostic and Silva to take advantage of. Add in that Salzburg have shipped at least two goals in each of their home European matches this season and backing the visitors to do the business in an attacking sense appeals.
