Roma vs Cesena Predictions
This season’s Coppa Italia is shaping up to be hotly contested, with Juventus and Napoli already in to the semi-finals. Two of Serie A’s top three are already through, and Roma are expected to join them on Wednesday night. The Giallorossi are up against Cesena, who are in the relegation zone in the second tier. Surely the second placed side in top flight can end the visitors fantastic cup run?
Roma suffered a setback at the weekend, as they went down 3-2 at Sampdoria. That was an end to end game, one which saw them slip even further off leaders Juventus. Their best chance of winning a trophy this term is probably in the cup, given how inconsistent they can be on the road. Their away form has let them down quite a few times this season, which is why they’re falling behind in the race for the Scudetto.
However, their home form is a different story. Roma have won all 10 of their league matches at the Stadio Olimpico this season. That perfect record carried on in the cup, as they hammered Sampdoria 4-0 here in the last round. That was a dominant display from the Giallorossi, and they’ve been in excellent scoring form at home. The hosts have scored 2.8 goals per game at their own ground, while they’ve let in just 0.7 per match in return.
Cesena have a very different record on their travels, they’re yet to win an away game in the second tier. The visitors have scored 0.83 goals per outing in Serie B, which is an awful run of form to take to one of the best teams in the top flight. Their fantastic cup run has come after shock away wins to two Serie A sides, but this is a much bigger challenge. The Giallorossi have won to nil in 50% of their home matches, while they’ve won and kept a clean sheet in three of their last four matches here.
Roma have won by three or more goals in 40% of their home matches so far, while they’ve scored three or more in 60% of their outings at the Stadio Olimpico. Against one of the worst teams in the second division, we’re expecting the Giallorossi to at least repeat that. We’re backing Roma on the -2 Asian Handicap, which is priced at 17/20 at bet365. We’re also backing a heavy win on the correct score market. A repeat of the hosts’ 4-0 win in the last round is our tip, at 9/1 with bet365.
