Rotherham vs Accrington Stanley Predictions
Rotherham welcome Accrington to New York Stadium on Saturday afternoon, as they look to bounce back after tasting defeat in the EFL Trophy during the week. The visitors also need a win having emerged victorious from none of their last three league matches.
It was a poor mid-week for Rotherham, who were beaten by Lincoln in the EFL Trophy, but aside from that, the Millers have been ticking along nicely. They emerged victorious from their first-round FA Cup tie last weekend, while they made light work of beating Gillingham when last involved in League 1 action.
Paul Warne’s men were defeated when they last took to the pitch at New York Stadium. In fact, they’ve lost each of their last two at home, but they had the misfortune of facing two top sides, while they only lost narrowly on both occasions. Prior to their defeats against Oxford, the Millers recorded a resounding victory against a strong Coventry side, winning by four goals to nil. A repeat of that performance would surely be more than enough to see off Accrington on Saturday.
As for the visitors, well, it’s not been a fruitful campaign. Stanley find themselves sat in a rather lowly 19th position. More often than not, they’ve struggled to do more offensively than their opponents, which has meant that it’s been tough for John Coleman’s men, who’ve won just three out of 16, to come out on top.
On their travels, Accrington have produced moments of promise. They beat fellow strugglers Southend, while they also took a share of the spoils away from difficult travelling matches against Coventry, Wycombe and Bristol Rovers. However, in general, Stanley have struggled to match teams for both creativity and, crucially, goals. On the road, Coleman’s men have scored an average of 0.78 goals. They’ve conceded an average of 1.67.
In the betting, the hosts are tough to oppose. In truth, this a huge opportunity for the Millers to resume winning ways in front of a home crowd. Punters can profit by backing them to do just that. Stanley simply haven’t shown enough on their travels to suggest that they can tussle with a Rotherham side that has scored nearly twice as many goals. Add in the fact that Warne’s side rank as the second-best team in terms of shots conceded at home and they’re backed to hold their opponents at bay before capitalising at the other end.
In the ‘Correct Score’ market, a 2-0 home win appeals most. Rotherham’s overall home efforts outweigh Accrington’s travelling antics, especially from an attacking point of view, while the fact that the hosts have shut out decent sides such as Shrewsbury and Coventry points towards them holding off Stanley, who’ve failed to score in each of their last two travelling matches.
