Rotherham vs Southend Predictions
- Rotherham have conceded in five of their seven home games against the current bottom eight.
- Southend have scored at least once in nine of their last ten travelling matches in League 1.
- Both teams have scored in nine of Southend’s last ten away matches in League 1.
Millers wobbling
In a few short weeks, Rotherham have gone from looking like they could surge out in front to being five points behind league leaders Coventry. Without a win in three, the Millers need to bounce back ASAP.
Rotherham continue to score goals, but the problem is, so do their opposition. The Millers are now without a clean sheet in five matches, only one of which they’ve won. If they don’t tighten up at the back, then they risk falling too far behind the leaders and maybe even too far behind the automatic places.
Fortunately, this match against strugglers Southend provides Paul Warne’s men with the ideal opportunity to bounce back. Having said that, somewhat strangely, Rotherham have struggled to get the better of the weaker teams at home, winning just two of their seven home games against the current bottom eight. Such a record should leave the visitors feeling confident.
Shrimpers buoyed
Southend are going down, there’s no debating that, though they should come into this fixture with renewed confidence after doing what they’ve so rarely done last time out. For the first time in a while, Sol Campbell’s men will head into a league game off the back of a win. Could their victory over Bristol Rovers act as the catalyst for an improved run of performances?
It’s hard to imagine that Southend would be feeling upbeat ahead of a game against one of the top teams in League 1, but a trip to New York Stadium isn’t too daunting. Rotherham have struggled against the lesser teams at home, while Southend, for all their problems, played some good stuff last time out, while crucially, they found their shooting boots, scoring three times. In addition, Southend have been scoring regularly away from home in recent times, finding the net in nine of their last ten travelling matches.
Goals for both on the menu
Rotherham will absolutely fancy themselves to hurt Southend’s weak back-line, though there has been nothing secure about their own defending of late, so visiting goals are not ruled out. In the betting, ‘Both Teams to Score’ appeals greatly. Southend have scored plenty of goals on the road of late, notching in nine of their last ten, all nine of which have seen their opposition score too. Moreover, both teams have scored in each of Rotherham’s last five games overall, as well as in five of their seven home matches against the current bottom eight.
